Hit 'Em High

by Wes Grady

Have I been blind all these years? Why haven't I paid more attention to hockey? Up until a couple years ago I could care less about the sport. But after an obsession with the EA NHL video games and a meager attempt at starting to play at the age of 25, I have a new found respect for it. Maybe it's the fights or because it's the only other sport in the American market that's full contact (not talking 'bout bumping bodies in the paint or running over the catcher).

I was incredibly upset when the high schoolers informed me there is no checking in our street pickup game. Pussies. Just wanted to get that good old feeling of totally destroying someone without having to punch their lights out. If you've never leveled someone, I suggest you strap on some pads and get it on. The feeling is like no other. Here are some beauts from the NHL this year, eh.

Like dribbling a basketball, you just have to feel puck handling. You can look down every now and then but if you do it too long you won't see that big-bodied defender coming to end your life. Blindsides are always the best.

Notable comment: really a penalty i miss hockey from 10 years ago when that was perfectly legal and no penalty, NFL is turning into flag football, Boxing is turning into a shouting contest, now the NHL is getting girly with taking away most fights and calling this crap, soon we wont have much to watch in sports. - Thekingcmk

I'm not an expert on the rules of hockey but I got to give it up to the little guy here. 5'9" Brad Marchand channels his inner Ying Yang Twins and gets low on 6'3" Sami Salo. Though clipping is defined as below the knees, I think his shoulder makes contact at about mid thigh. Get the Mounties to open a full-fledged investigation into this attempted murder.

Notable comment: How come Salo didn't get 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct throwing his stick? He could have hurt an innocent Bruins fan. Did anyone think of that? - SP0KEDB

With players skating at 25 to 30 mph, I'm surprised more players don't die. The following hit looks a lot worse than it is, with a little jump before the hit, then Paille goes airborne.

Notable comment: "And he launched him 25 feet". Pittsburgh announcers at their finest... - ROCKETS2965

Man, it always seems like people are gunning for the Bruins. Not sure if its because they're reigning champs or because they're cheapskates. Although it seems like it, Boychuk didn't skate into a brick wall.

Notable comment: LOL "charging". He glided from center ice you moron. by rcbasher10 @rcbasher101 what do you expect from NESN announcers , They are the biggest homers in the business - HockeyVideoHD

Adding another highlight hit to his list, Voracek has officially been Kronwalled. First time I saw this, I definitely thought he was paralyzed. The way his arms do some spastic motion into a touchdown signal, could send some chills down your spine. But like a boss he pops right up. Voracek could learn something from Tupac, "you gotta keep ya head up". Be safe people.

Notable comment: Keep you head on a swivel - prestigeworldwidepro
